The WKCDA Business Model: The Case of Xiqu Centre

The Xiqu Centre of West Kowloon Cultural District will open in late 2018. It aims to preserve the traditional form of Chinese art, as well as create a modern innovative sustainable business model informed by professional practices, social values and business objectives. Mr Louis Yu will cover the strategies and the business model which he has been devising on for this first major performing arts venue of the District.

Mr Yu joined the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority in June 2010. He is responsible for steering the planning and development of the performing arts facilities in the District, and for overseeing the strategies and operating models for these facilities. Since joining the WKCDA, Mr Yu has played a pivotal role in leading the design and construction of the performing arts facilities. He has also overseen a series of pre-opening programmes for dance, drama and theatre arts, music and xiqu.

With over 28 years of experience in arts administration and management, he was formerly the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. He had worked with the Hong Kong Arts Centre for 13 years and served as the Executive Director from 2000 to 2007.
